The story starts in 1850, when the ambition for genteel education in Vidin finds a vent in opening a ptimary school. On 11 May 1882 the primary school is proclaimed a Genuin Gymnasium - “Skobeleva Genuin Gymnasium”.

Prof. Alexander Tsankov, prime minister of Bulgaria at the time and a graduate of the Vidin Gymnasium is a prime initiator for erecting a building, which to be set up similary to the english school buildings. The base stone was laid in August 1925, and the first students started their education in it on 11 June 1931. 

The high quality of education is accomplished by the specialized training, which has been introduced in the school in 1968.

“Tsar Simeon Veliki” General High School is a successor of the first high school in the town and it is situated in its building even nowadays. In 1994/1995 school year the only humanitarian specialized class,  whith intensive learning of English and acceptance after 7^th grade, in the region is opened.

For the beginning of 1997/1998 school year the first class with speciality in “Informatics” is opened.

Today’s appearance of the school is related to studying informatic technologies. Classes with “Technological” speciality are opened in 2003/2004 school year.
